This week, we celebrated our very first Coburn Quest with games, cookies and a whole lot of Parley Coburn school pride!
Coburn Quest is a school-wide recognition program that celebrates students who go above and beyond in showing kindness, leadership, responsibility, perseverance and our Coburn Crew Attributes.
Each month, students vote on a reward, then work toward earning a coveted Quest wristband by demonstrating great character and making positive choices. Congratulations to our first Quest Kids! We are proud of you and the example you set for others!

❤️🚂 A Great Way to Start the Day! 🏒
Our students at Diven and Coburn Elementary were greeted with a special surprise this morning! Players from the Elmira Aviators hockey team stopped by for high fives and handshakes, bringing smiles, excitement and a little hockey spirit to the start of the school day!
The visit also came with a reminder: Opening Weekend is THIS weekend! 🏒 And kids 12 and under get in FREE all season!
Thanks to the Aviators for making our students' morning a little more special! We can't wait to host you at other Elmira schools.

Internet Safety in Action! 💻🔒
The Better Business Bureau of Albany is in the Twin Tiers this week, and today, they stopped by Broadway Academy to work with our 9th graders! Today's program was organized and made possible by the Career Development Council.
Students learned valuable tips for protecting themselves online, including how to recognize phishing attempts, avoid internet scams, spot fraudulent websites and identify other online red flags.
These real-world lessons help our students become more informed, confident and responsible digital citizens. Thank you to the Better Business Bureau of Albany for taking the time to help our Express students stay safe online!

An Update from SchoolTool and Google Play Store - As of October 30, 2026, the current SchoolTool mobile app for Android devices will no longer be available for download from the Google Play Store.
What this means: Users who already have the app installed and are actively using it will be able to continue using the app after October 30, 2026. However, new installations and re-installations will no longer be available through the Google Play Store. If you work with any districts using the SchoolTool Android app, please encourage them to ensure it is installed on all needed devices before October 30, 2026. Along with this, the mobile site will still be accessible through mobile browsers.
As part of our continued investment in the SchoolTool mobile experience, we are retiring the current Android app, as we focus on building the next generation of SchoolTool mobile access planned for release in 2027. We look forward to sharing more details as development progresses.

EARLY Mindfulness Daily @ Work registration is OPEN: Forty guided sessions. Ten to fifteen minutes a day. Taught by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, two of the most respected mindfulness teachers in the world. Staff get 78 days to finish, so a missed day, or even a missed week, won't set anyone back.

Express Cart, in partnership with the Food Services Department and the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, is an Instacart style food program for Elmira families needing a central order and pick up service for family groceries. There is no cost to families for this program.

Super Saturday is a FREE, recreational and enrichment program for youth in grades K-4 who reside in the City of Elmira, Town of Southport, and Town of Elmira. The program operates two six-week sessions on Saturdays throughout the school year.

Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) is offered through CASA-Trinity. The online series repeats each month and sessions will be held each Tuesday on OCTOBER 6, 13, 20 and 27 at 1pm.

This summer, Elmira High School Academy of Finance student Madilynn Allington put her classroom learning into action through an internship with the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce.
Madilynn gained valuable hands-on experience, learned more about our local business community and had the opportunity to build professional skills outside the classroom.
Her work was recently recognized by the Chamber with a student spotlight in its newsletter! 👏
Experiences like Madilynn’s are exactly what the Academy of Finance is designed to provide — connecting students with local businesses and organizations while helping them develop the skills, knowledge and connections they need for their futures.

The 2026–2027 inductees are Alexus Boorse (EHS Class of 2018), Jacob Parfianowicz (EFA Class of 2013), Loren (Sayers) Green (EHS Class of 2016), Bryan Stark (EFA Class of 2004), and Gavin Wise (EHS Class of 2018).
The Hall of Fame is an opportunity to bring generations of Elmira athletes and our community together to celebrate the people who helped build the proud tradition of Elmira athletics.

An Update from the Office of Educational Services, as of September 16, 2026.
New York State Board of Regents meeting, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) was authorized to move forward with the next phase of NY Inspires. NY Inspires is a multi-year effort to transform graduation requirements across New York State. This includes developing the regulatory changes needed to transition to one New York State high school diploma and changing the role Regents Exams play in graduation requirements. NYSED expects to bring proposed regulatory amendments to the Board of Regents by February 2027, with further implementation beginning during the 2027–28 school year.

👮♀️⭐ Building Leaders at Fassett Elementary! At Fassett Elementary, leadership starts young! This year, Fassett has developed a Student Leadership Team made up of students who take on meaningful responsibilities within their school community. As part of their role, these young leaders serve alongside the school resource officer to help support building safety and security. But this experience is about so much more than safety. It gives students an opportunity to work with school leaders, understand the importance of responsibility, build confidence and see themselves as an important part of their school community. When we give students meaningful opportunities to lead, we help them discover that their voice, their choices and their actions matter. We’re proud of our young leaders at Fassett! #GoExpress
