The Parley Coburn Cougar's 6th grade classes enjoyed an exciting field trip to the Steele Memorial Library where they explored the library’s creative Makerspace and welcoming Teen Space. Students had the opportunity to make buttons and crafts, play both online and in-person games with friends, and browse books and other library resources. Many students were excited to make plans to meet up with friends at the library after school and over the summer. The visit also introduced students to the library’s strong teen programs such as the Teen Space and a Teen Advisory Group that meets twice a month. Students learned that the library encourages teen feedback and active participation, helping make the library a fun and welcoming place for young people in our community. Last night marked a historic moment for the Elmira City School District as we introduced the first-ever National Elementary Honor Society – Coburn Chapter. 🎉Fifty-six Coburn Cougars were recognized for their outstanding attendance, behavior, community involvement, and academic excellence — reflecting the leadership, scholarship, service, and character celebrated by the National Elementary Honor Society. One of the most meaningful moments of the evening came as each student honored their “Person of Influence,” recognizing the parents, teachers, coaches, staff, and mentors throughout ECSD who helped guide and inspire their journey. ❤️

We are incredibly proud of these students and the bright future they represent for our schools and community. 🐾 #GoExpress

Broadway Academy and Broadway Intermediate are participating in a cereal box collection for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. Many of the students at Broadway Academy have volunteered for the foodbank this year and helped sort the various food items for the foodbank. We collected 55 boxes so far and would like to make our goal of 400 boxes by June 12th!

On June 12th we will celebrate with making a chain of all the boxes and knocking them down like dominoes before we donate the cereal.

🌟 Pause Time at Parley Coburn 🌟

At Parley Coburn, we believe every student deserves the chance to pause, reflect, and grow. That’s why we launched Parley Pause Time—a restorative, relationship-based support program run through our Dean of Students’ office. Meeting three mornings a week, it helps students start their day with structure, connection, and a focus on positive attendance.

Students use journals tied to Coburn Community Attributes, and build skills through restorative conversations. Just as importantly, they form strong relationships—whether through games, conversation, or simply spending time together. Students set goals and celebrate progress with incentives like Coburn Candy Fridays.

Since launching this year, we’ve seen meaningful growth. Pause Time reflects our commitment to helping every student feel supported, connected, and successful. #GoExpress

9th Grade Course Selection Guide
In February, Mrs. Kennedy’s 8th grade English students at Ernie Davis Academy didn’t just study the Holocaust—they connected with it.

As part of their unit, students learned about survivor Dr. Irene Butter (age 95) and were inspired to write her heartfelt letters… and they were deeply received. Her assistant read each one aloud to Dr. Butter and sent photos back to the class.

A powerful reminder: student voices matter—and meaningful learning goes far beyond the classroom. #GoExpress
