Please be advised that Community Swim will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, September 29, due to a staffing conflict.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

An Update from SchoolTool and Google Play Store - As of October 30, 2026, the current SchoolTool mobile app for Android devices will no longer be available for download from the Google Play Store.

What this means: Users who already have the app installed and are actively using it will be able to continue using the app after October 30, 2026. However, new installations and re-installations will no longer be available through the Google Play Store. If you work with any districts using the SchoolTool Android app, please encourage them to ensure it is installed on all needed devices before October 30, 2026. Along with this, the mobile site will still be accessible through mobile browsers.

As part of our continued investment in the SchoolTool mobile experience, we are retiring the current Android app, as we focus on building the next generation of SchoolTool mobile access planned for release in 2027. We look forward to sharing more details as development progresses.

EARLY Mindfulness Daily @ Work registration is OPEN: Forty guided sessions. Ten to fifteen minutes a day. Taught by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, two of the most respected mindfulness teachers in the world. Staff get 78 days to finish, so a missed day, or even a missed week, won't set anyone back.

Express Cart Food for Home | Now Available for the 2026-2027 School Year!

Express Cart, in partnership with the Food Services Department and the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, is an Instacart style food program for Elmira families needing a central order and pick up service for family groceries. There is no cost to families for this program.

Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) is offered through CASA-Trinity. The online series repeats each month and sessions will be held each Tuesday on OCTOBER 6, 13, 20 and 27 at 1pm.

• Caregivers are invited to attend one, two, three or all four sessions.

🌟 Student Spotlight: Madilynn Allington 🌟

This summer, Elmira High School Academy of Finance student Madilynn Allington put her classroom learning into action through an internship with the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce.

Madilynn gained valuable hands-on experience, learned more about our local business community and had the opportunity to build professional skills outside the classroom.

Her work was recently recognized by the Chamber with a student spotlight in its newsletter! 👏

Elmira City School District families, alumni and community members are invited to join Express Athletics tonight at 6 p.m. at Elmira High School as five outstanding former student-athletes are welcomed into the Elmira Athletic Hall of Fame during halftime of the home football game.

Community Open Swim at Ernie Davis Academy Pool!

Beginning September 22, 2026, we are pleased to re-open community swim for this school year from 7:15 AM to 8:15 AM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The program will run through Thursday, May 6, 2027. The cost remains $3 per person, which helps cover the expense of providing lifeguards.

An Update from the Office of Educational Services, as of September 16, 2026. New York State Board of Regents meeting, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) was authorized to move forward with the next phase of NY Inspires. NY Inspires is a multi-year effort to transform graduation requirements across New York State. This includes developing the regulatory changes needed to transition to one New York State high school diploma and changing the role Regents Exams play in graduation requirements. NYSED expects to bring proposed regulatory amendments to the Board of Regents by February 2027, with further implementation beginning during the 2027–28 school year. This year, Fassett has developed a Student Leadership Team made up of students who take on meaningful responsibilities within their school community. As part of their role, these young leaders serve alongside the school resource officer to help support building safety and security. But this experience is about so much more than safety. It gives students an opportunity to work with school leaders, understand the importance of responsibility, build confidence and see themselves as an important part of their school community. Reynolds and a reminder that creativity, courage and a willingness to try can start with something as simple as a dot. Dot Day encourages students to believe in their ideas, take creative risks and discover what they can do when they make their own unique mark. At Elmira City School District, we know that every student brings something special to our school community. Sometimes, all it takes is a little encouragement to help them see it in themselves. Today, our students are celebrating their creativity, their individuality and the many ways they can make their mark—in our classrooms, our schools and the world around them. Last week as we remembered September 11, 2001, our teachers found meaningful, age-appropriate ways to help even our youngest students understand the impact of that day — and the extraordinary acts of courage and compassion that emerged from it. Recently, students in two of our Broadway Elementary classrooms learned the story of Welles Crowther, who became known as "The Man in the Red Bandana." Welles was working in the South Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. His red bandana, which he wore over his face to help him breathe, became a symbol of the courage and selflessness he showed as he helped others reach safety. Students talked about what makes someone a hero — courage, kindness, selflessness, compassion and putting others before yourself. Then, wearing red bandanas in Welles’ honor, they reflected on the heroes in their own lives and wrote about what makes those people heroes to them. It was a powerful way to introduce an incredibly difficult day in our nation's history without focusing on the details that can be overwhelming for young children. Their reflections will be displayed in the classroom for families to see during Open House — a beautiful reminder that heroes come in many forms, and their stories can inspire us all. #GoExpress

📚🎨 Learning, creating and practicing positive behaviors at Pine City Elementary! Our first graders are learning with the beloved book "No, David!" as they explore behaviors that are appropriate in the classroom. After reading, students are putting their own art skills and fine motor skills to work by drawing examples of these behaviors — turning an important lesson into a fun, hands-on learning experience! ✏️🖍️ These conversations help our youngest learners understand classroom expectations, make positive choices and build the skills they need to learn and grow together. This is part of the Treatment Agreements that support a positive, respectful and consistent learning environment across our classrooms. Way to go, Pine City first graders! #GoExpress

All Elmira families are invited to this fun, family-friendly resource event this evening Tuesday, September 1, from 5–6 p.m. at the Ernie Davis Academy Cafeteria. More than 20 community partners will be on hand inside the school to connect families with resources, support and opportunities—from food assistance and health and wellness to housing, workforce development, education and more. Families can also take advantage of Pre-K registration, enjoy activities and giveaways, and enter raffles throughout the evening.
