Our Elmira students in grades 9–12 have recently had opportunities to explore a variety of college campuses, career days and hands-on experiences showcasing different career paths, including the skilled trades.
These experiences are about more than choosing a college or a career. They’re about helping students discover their interests, recognize their strengths and learn about opportunities they may not have considered before.
By exposing students to different pathways early, we help them make more informed decisions about life after high school — whether that means college, a trade, technical training, entering the workforce or another path that fits their goals.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Elmira High School
The Elmira High School Multicultural Club invites students, families and community members to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at its 3rd Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Event on Wednesday, October 28!
Join us at Elmira High School from 4:30 to 7 p.m. for an evening celebrating Hispanic heritage and culture through music, dancing and lots of delicious food.
This free, family-friendly event is open to the entire community. Come together to enjoy the festivities, experience the richness of Hispanic culture and celebrate the diversity that makes our community special.

🐾💛 A Golden Paw Celebration at Pine City School!
We’re sharing a few pictures from Friday’s Golden Paw Walk! 🐻
A classroom becomes a Golden Paw Class when every student earns a paw for making good choices. Once every classroom at Pine City School earns this recognition, it’s time to celebrate with a schoolwide walk!
We started this special tradition last year, and Friday, our Pine Bears did it again! Students and staff came together for a celebratory walk around the building, with plenty of excitement and encouragement from one another — and, of course, Pine Bear! 🐻
Seeing the happiness and pride on the faces of our students and staff was truly something special. We are so proud of our Pine Bears for making good choices and earning their paws! 🐾💚💛

Updates to our Stadium Expectations and Safety Protocols
As we welcome our community to Express Athletics this fall, please be aware of the following updated safety protocols for stadium athletic events across the district.
No student bags or backpacks: Student bags of any kind will no longer be permitted, including school bags, sports bags, duffel bags and backpacks.
No face coverings: Face coverings of any kind are not permitted at stadium athletic events.
New sign-in procedure for students in Grades PreK–8: Parents and guardians accompanying students in Grades PreK–8 must provide their name and phone number at the entrance gate. This information will help us contact families quickly in the event of an emergency.

🥰 A Little SPOT of Learning at Fassett Elementary! Second graders are learning that all our feelings matter!
As part of a social-emotional learning pilot, students read A Little Scribble SPOT and used colorful Model Magic to create their own Scribble SPOTs. As they mixed more and more colors, they saw how feelings can become tangled and overwhelming — just like the character in the story!
This hands-on activity helped students explore the importance of recognizing and naming their emotions before they become one big “scribble.” And, of course, they had a special classroom friend nearby: Drag Drag, Fassett’s part-time bearded dragon, who loves visiting on sunny days! 🦎☀️

Parley League is about so much more than sports. It’s about building relationships, strengthening connections between families and schools, and creating a sense of belonging for every child. When students and families connect with trusted school staff in a fun, welcoming environment, those relationships grow stronger — and our entire school community benefits.
Coburn’s Ultimate Kickball night at the EHS softball field was a perfect example! More than 200 kids, families, and community members came together for an incredible evening. We loved seeing cousins from Hendy and Beecher join the fun, along with EDA siblings who are former Coburn students. Once part of the Coburn Crew, always part of the family! ❤️
A huge thank-you to the Elmira Booster Club for helping make these opportunities possible. We’re proud to see Parley League bringing our school community together, one great night at a time!

🐄🌱 Learning beyond the classroom!
Primary students from across the Elmira City School District are spending the day at Brand Park for a hands-on agricultural education experience.
Through the Mobile Dairy Experience, students are learning all about dairy farming in New York State and getting an up-close look at where our food comes from.
The experience is made possible through Cornell Cooperative Extension’s application through the New York Animal Agriculture Coalition (NYAAC), with the Chemung County DPW Storm Water Coalition as a co-sponsor.

Coburn Quest is a school-wide recognition program that celebrates students who go above and beyond in showing kindness, leadership, responsibility, perseverance and our Coburn Crew Attributes.
Each month, students vote on a reward, then work toward earning a coveted Quest wristband by demonstrating great character and making positive choices. Congratulations to our first Quest Kids! We are proud of you and the example you set for others!

❤️🚂 A Great Way to Start the Day! 🏒
Our students at Diven and Coburn Elementary were greeted with a special surprise this morning! Players from the Elmira Aviators hockey team stopped by for high fives and handshakes, bringing smiles, excitement and a little hockey spirit to the start of the school day!
The visit also came with a reminder: Opening Weekend is THIS weekend! 🏒 And kids 12 and under get in FREE all season!
Thanks to the Aviators for making our students' morning a little more special! We can't wait to host you at other Elmira schools.

Internet Safety in Action! 💻🔒
The Better Business Bureau of Albany is in the Twin Tiers this week, and today, they stopped by Broadway Academy to work with our 9th graders! Today's program was organized and made possible by the Career Development Council.
Students learned valuable tips for protecting themselves online, including how to recognize phishing attempts, avoid internet scams, spot fraudulent websites and identify other online red flags.
These real-world lessons help our students become more informed, confident and responsible digital citizens. Thank you to the Better Business Bureau of Albany for taking the time to help our Express students stay safe online!
