We’re excited to announce the Grade 3–8 winners of our Third Annual Keyboard Challenge! 🎉

This challenge is more than just a little friendly competition—it’s designed to help students build confidence and strengthen their keyboarding skills, setting them up for success both in everyday learning and on state assessments.

To celebrate their achievement, our winners enjoyed a well-earned donut party and received some fun swag from Learning.com, the platform we use to support keyboarding across our district. Congratulations to all of our participants, and a big shoutout to this year’s winners! #GoExpress

Today, excitement raced through Elmira as the official WGI pace car made special visits to all four intermediate schools! 🏁 Students had the unique opportunity to see the car up close, snap photos, and learn more about what it takes to be part of race day at Watkins Glen International. The visit helped build anticipation for next weekend’s NASCAR race while giving students a memorable, hands-on experience they won’t soon forget. A big thank you to our partners for bringing this incredible opportunity to our schools and helping connect learning with real-world experiences. 🏎️ #GoExpress

Upward Bound is a free program for first-generation, college-bound students who attend partner schools like EHS—and we’re proud to be just 1 of 6 schools selected to participate. For nearly two decades, this partnership has helped Elmira students build confidence, pursue college, and achieve their goals—and we’re proud to be a model for what’s possible.

Broadway Elementary students are putting on their thinking caps—literally! 🎨🧢 Students taking state exams this week started with a blank white ball cap and turned it into a one-of-a-kind source of inspiration. Thanks to funds generously provided by the PTO, each student designed their own hat, filling it with creative designs, motivational words, and positive messages to help them stay confident and focused. From encouraging phrases to bold, colorful artwork, these thinking caps are more than just fun—they’re a reminder for students to believe in themselves, stay calm, and do their very best. Phone System Maintenance Notice

The Elmira City School District would like to inform our community of a brief, scheduled maintenance to our regional phone system.

Date: Monday, April 20
Time: Beginning at 4:00 PM
Duration: Approximately 10 minutes

During this time, phone services across the district will be temporarily unavailable.

This maintenance is being completed outside of school hours to minimize any disruption to students, staff, and families. Because this work is coordinated with an external vendor, it must take place during this scheduled time.

Broadway Academy sent 50 ninth-grade students to Try Trades Day today —students who expressed an interest in learning more about careers in the trades. This hands-on experience is giving them a closer look at the many pathways available right here in our region. Thank you to the GST BOCES Career Development Council for hosting this impactful event each year and to all of the trades people for helping our students explore new opportunities for their future! #GoExpress

This week, Beecher students experienced something truly special—bringing the world right into their classroom!

As part of their ELA learning, students explored what it means to adapt to a new home and the challenges that come with moving to a new country. To make this learning even more meaningful, they connected live with friends in Spain who shared their real-life experiences.

Through this virtual exchange, students asked thoughtful questions, gained new perspectives, and built a deeper understanding of different cultures. Experiences like this show how technology can open doors—connecting classrooms across the globe and making learning come alive in powerful ways.
