Kick-Off to National Nurse's Week!Today is the first day of National Nurses Week and kicks-off a weeklong recognition of the most trusted profession – nurses! National Nurses Week begins May 6th and ends on May 12th, which is the birthday of Florence Nightingale (May 12, 1820 – August 13, 1910), the founder of modern nursing.

On this day, we recognize and raise awareness of all nurse contributions and commitments and acknowledge the vital role nurses play in society. School nurses play a vital role in ensuring our students are healthy and ready to learn! Not only do our nurses promote the health of our students, they can also help students and their families gain access to health insurance, coordinate care by communicating between the family and health care providers, and educate families on what health care services are available to their child at school.

School-aged children often experience chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders, food allergies, and more. For these students, school nurses play a large role in the daily management of their conditions. We are so proud of the nursing team we have in the Elmira City School District.

THANK YOU NURSES FOR ALL YOU DO!
