Samara Gromer is shown with three of the preschool students at Riverside who played percussion instruments for their holiday concert.
Last year, Samara Gromer, vocal music teacher at Riverside Elementary, was awarded the Shields-Gillespie Scholarship from the American Orff-Schulwerk Association for Music and Movement Education for her work with preschool children of low-income populations. The $1,000 grant was awarded for the purchase of instruments specifically to use with younger children in teaching them proper technique and care of percussion instruments. On Dec. 15, Riverside preschoolers gave a culminating performance.
