EFA pool to reopen Monday |
The pool at Elmira Free Academy will reopen for open swim sessions, pool parties and child swimming lessons on Monday, August 2.

Recalibrated test scores reflect those across New York State |
The State Department of Education released the new test scores for grades 3-8 math and English. In the Elmira City School district, 47 percent of students met or exceeded English proficiency, while 51 percent did so in math.
SHS athlete plans to play Division 1 baseball |
Brad Bellinger, 17, who is entering his senior year at Southside High School, has verbally committed to St. Johns University to play Division I baseball.

Corey Hamula, 18, a 2010 graduate of Southside High School, will sign a letter of intent on Wednesday, July 28 to play baseball for Sullivan County Community College.

The Elmira City School District's library media specialists have compiled a suggested summer reading list for students in grades Pre-K through high school. There's something for everyone on this list, which includes a wonderful variety of titles and authors! Many of the books are available at local libraries as well as bookstores. Click here to view the reading list.
Students at Coburn and Fassett elementary schools took part in walkathons to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. At Coburn, third through fifth-graders participated, raising $1,228.95. At Fassett, the entire school community walked to Eldridge Park and back as the culmination of a month-long effort to raise money for JDRF.
