The Elmira City School District announces that graduation rates within it's three high schools - EFA, Southside High School and the Alternative High School - have shown a continued increase over the past three years.
Elmira school board to hold special meetings today Thursday and Tuesday |
The Board of Education will hold three special meetings at 6 p.m. in the EFA Community Room. The purpose of all three meetings is for Superintendent Budget Development presentations.
EFA band members selected for state honor band |
Three members of the Elmira Free Academy band were selected for the New York State Band Directors Association Honor Band, held on March 5-7 in Syracuse.
Indoor track athletes qualify for nationals |
Seventeen athletes from the Elmira City School Districts indoor track team have qualified for the National Scholastic Indoor Championships on March 12-14 at the Armory in New York City.
Southside High School to present Seussical |
The Southside Footlighters will perform Seussical for their spring musical, at 8 p.m. March 19 and 20 in the O'Dell Theater at SHS.

Animal specimens donated to Elmira high schools |
Wayne and Marsha Brown of Pine City recently donated a large collection of taxidermied animal specimens to the Elmira City School District.
EFA to present spring musical: Beauty and the Beast |
Elmira Free Academy students will perform Beauty and the Beast at 7 p.m. March 12 and 13 and 2 p.m. March 14 in the EFA auditorium.

Southside High School will present "Seussical" at 8 p.m. March 19 and 20th in the school's theater. Tickets are $10; student tickets are $5 with an adult. Click here for more information.
Elmira City School District residents interested in seeking a seat on the Board of Education may pick up information packets and petitions from Janet Mustico, District Clerk, at EFA.
Three seats are available for three-year terms which will run from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2013. Three current Board members have terms that expire on June 30, 2010: Lynn Grottenthaler, Colleen McCall and Rodney Strange.
Candidates must turn in 100 signatures of qualified voters by 5 p.m. on April 28 to be placed on the ballot. Candidates will draw for position on the ballot April 29. The next district School Board budget vote and election is May 18.
Kindergarten students at Pine City Elementary School collected more than $200 in pennies for the American Red Cross. Joel Robinson, executive director of the Sullivan Trail Chapter, recently came to the school to accept the donation. The money will go to the Haiti Relief Fund.
The Elmira City School District is a tobacco-free environment.
