Students raise funds for suicide prevention

Elmira students participated in and raised funds for the Walk a Mile in My Shoes suicide prevention walk May 10 at Eldridge Park.

The Southside JV baseball team walked for the third year in a row and raised $963 in pledges. A group representing the Broadway Middle School National Junior Honor Society raised more than $600. Students from other schools also participated.

The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness of suicide prevention, to raise money for local suicide prevention efforts and provide support for those who have lost someone to suicide.

Equity in Elmira

An invitation to partner and collaborate

Superintendent Dr. Raymond Bryant called on community members to work together to improve outcomes for all students in Elmira during a Community Education Forum Thursday at the Ernie Davis Community Center.

Dr. Bryant gave a presentation highlighting gaps in performance between subgroups of students - white, African American, economically disadvantaged and non-economically disadvantaged. Gaps can be found in test scores, graduation rates, participation and drop-out rates.
