Sphero Indi Jurassic Journey 2025

Update Week of March 18, 2025

Drumroll Please! Results below

This was Sphero's largest Global Challenge season yet with almost 500 registrations!!!!

That being said, the number of teams chosen to advance to the next round was a hard choice for the Sphero judges... All of our 5 teams received above average scores on the scoring rubric.

However, due to a limited number of spots in the Sphero World Championship only a small number of teams move on.

We had 2 of our teams advance to the next round!

Let's give a big round of applause to🎉🎉🎉🎉:

Team Dino World

AND

Team Flashers

Both teams are from Ms. Billbe's Diven 2nd grade!🎉

Diven Diven

All 5 of our teams put in an extreme amount of work into this year's challenge.

Elmira City School District was well represented across the globe.

We are super proud of the creativity and grit our teams displayed during this challenge! Thank you to every single team!

Having fun and learning is our number one goal, which truly was demonstrated with all our teams! THAT is something to celebrate!

We hope you enjoyed the sharing of this challenge and stay tuned for information and videos from the 2 teams advancing to the World Challenge Round!

Sphero Indi Jurassic Journey 2025Elmira City School District Competes in the Sphero Indi Virtual Challenge: Jurassic Journey 2025

The Elmira City School District proudly participated in the 2025 Sphero Indi Virtual Challenge: Jurassic Journey, with five teams in total from Diven Elementary School (2 teams), Pine City Elementary School (1 team), and Riverside Elementary School (2 teams) entering the competition. This exciting event, designed to blend technology and creativity, challenged students to navigate the prehistoric world of dinosaurs through coding and problem-solving.

This year, almost 500 teams from around the world entered the Sphero Global Challenge and almost 100 of those teams entered the Indi Challenge.

The Sphero Indi Virtual Challenge is more than just a race—it's an opportunity for students to engage in hands-on learning with coding while reinforcing key STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) principles. As part of this digital fluency and computer science-based lesson, students were tasked with programming the Sphero Indi robots to navigate various dinosaur-themed obstacles, honing their coding skills and gaining valuable experience in computational thinking. This is the Elmira City School District's second year participating in this virtual challenge and we look forward to what next year's challenge will bring.

By incorporating this innovative project into the curriculum, students were able to experience firsthand how technology intersects with education. The Elmira City School District's participation in the challenge highlights its commitment to fostering digital literacy and preparing students for future success in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. With such enthusiastic involvement from Diven, Pine City, and Riverside Elementary Schools, The District is excited to continue cultivating the next generation of tech-savvy thinkers.
