The Elmira Express won their first ever Section IV Championship in boys’ golf on Monday, topping the field in Class A at Soaring Eagles.
Elmira shot 389, edging Maine-Endwell and Binghamton by one shot each. Horseheads A shot 402, tied with Vestal (402), followed by Corning (415), Ithaca and U-E (420 each) and Horseheads B (454).
“I am obviously very proud of how the Elmira squad came together and all played outstanding today,” Elmira coach Chris Sayers said. “It was a steady effort required to compete against some stiff competition and we had everyone at their best.
“Aiden Ranck, who finished third at 73, shot his personal best by seven strokes. Jackson Cavalier, who had been our leading scorer throughout the season, also came through big with a score of 77. Ryan Ferraro and Logan Demember both had their season low 18 hole scores at 82 as well as Logan Palmer’s score of 84. This is the first Section 4 golf title ever for the Elmira Express. I know that the team is very proud of their accomplishment, and I am humbled to be a part of their achievement.”
