EHS Hosts Area All-State Music Festival

Elmira High School Hosted Zone 15 Senior High Area All-State Festival This Weekend

On November 18th, 250 of the area’s top music students arrived at Elmira High School for a two-day music festival, culminating in a concert on Saturday at 2 PM. The students, representing 41 school districts from Allegany, Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler, and Yates counties, worked diligently together at EHS for the 2022 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Area All-State Festival. The 10th, 11th, and 12th grade musicians began rehearsals as members of the band, string orchestra, mixed choir and treble chorus rehearsed for approximately 12 hours before performing in the culminating concert.

This year the Concert Band is under the direction of Mr. John Rolland from Rochester; the Mixed Choir is led by Robert Dumas from Oswego; and the String Orchestra is under the direction of Mr. Anthony Pinelli from Port Washington, New York.

Students were selected for an Area All-State ensemble through an application process that began in September. Applications include a solo audition rating sheet from the previous school year and music teacher recommendations. Students are then selected through established criteria and are notified of their acceptance in early October.

"The music faculty and support staff at Elmira High School in the Elmira City School District have been actively preparing for this festival since May, and are excited and honored to be able to host, and show off their fantastic facilities. In addition we are very proud to have 18 of our own Elmira High School music students accepted into the festival," says Kimberly G. Henry, Band Director at Elmira High School.

Congratulations musicians! #GoExpress
