Day of the Dead in Middle School Spanish!Today is the Day of the Dead 💀 and our Ernie Davis Academy Spanish students are diving into Dia de los Muertos with Rockwell Museum educators.
Each year in early November, our Ernie Davis Academy Spanish teachers partner with Docents (or museum educators) from The Rockwell Museum in Corning to celebrate the Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead during Spanish class.

Dia de los Muertos is a festival of “welcome” for the souls of the dead, celebrated on November 1 and November 2 each year. The celebration is prepared and enjoyed by the living and honors those who have passed. Students are learning the customs surrounding this celebration and the ancient traditions traced to the Aztec civilization in Mexico.

Today, there are large Mexican communities across the United States where Dia de los Muertos is widely celebrated. Connected to the Museum’s collection of American art, students are learning about Mexican folk-art cultural traditions like sugar skulls, ofrendas, season crickets for snacking, and more.
