7-8 Grade Students Study Science After School

Our Middle School Students at Ernie Davis Academy Teamed Up with the Science and Discovery Center for STEM Education!

During our APEX after school program at Ernie Davis Academy, MacKenzie Witters from the Science and Discovery Center recently conducted a session called, "Chemical Reactions" to EDA APEX students. Students had the opportunity to experiment with mixtures and solutions creating a slime like substances called a gel snack. The students were highly engaged and interested in the lesson.

In another successful evening with our partners at the Science and Discovery Center, EDA APEX students explored the science of writing secret messages. Students experimented with using turmeric, which is a natural pH indicator. Students wrote messages using baking soda and "revealed" their message by using a turmeric-rubbing alcohol solution.
