Neurodivergence + Autism Acceptance

April is Autism Acceptance Month

April National Autism Acceptance Month. The goal of Autism Acceptance Month is to be more inclusive of the very community it seeks to celebrate. It promotes not just education about the differences of people with autism, but understanding and respecting those differences. It calls for more tangible progress toward equal rights and resources.

In Elmira, we are committed to making our schools a place of acceptance for everyone, every day. However, the inclusion movement is not just occurring in our educational settings. It is happening on our sports fields, throughout our community and businesses. It is also not just for people with disabilities, its about accepting and respecting all our differences whether age, race/color, ethnicity, or gender.

Elmira City Schools’ mission is to provide meaningful opportunities in a safe and engaging environment for all. This work is creating a more inclusive environment for all students and staff and focuses on the potential and unique strength in everyone. To achieve success, we know that attitude is equally as important as our abilities.

Our Express families are invited to join PINE Directors Lauren Hough Williams and Samara Sweig on April 28 at 12 pm ET for this informative session!

Neurodivergence Day at Coburn, 4/21

On Friday April 21, students and staff at Coburn Elementary celebrated Neurodiversity. In the past, Autism Awareness has been recognized by wearing blue, but there's been a shift to wearing red to raise awareness for Neurodivergence Awareness. Coburn mixed red and blue to show the shift.

Coburn is P.I.N.E. school and Coburn works hard to make sure it is an inclusive and make Coburn a positive place for every student!
