Dear Elmira City School District Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! At the Elmira City School District, we are committed to the development of the whole child by delivering support services as a way to achieve academic excellence. In particular, we are committed to continuing our Community Schools initiative, an educational philosophy that is a critical component of the District’s Improvement Plan. In partnership with our community, we have identified Community Schools as a way to re-imagine the school system in a way that continues to deliver high quality academic instruction along with social, emotional and physical health support for students. This model recognizes that students and families who face chronic obstacles to learning in the classroom, from hunger to health, can be connected with services to improve academic achievement. The District’s partnership with MOSAIC Health Community Dentistry is a great example of these important partnerships - read more in the Community School’s section about on-site dental services for students in our school buildings. A commitment to this transformational approach is evidenced by strong partnerships among principals, parents, teachers, and community-based organizations and reflects the strengths of our regional Elmira community.
