The Board of Education is committed to encouraging high school students to take honors and ACE/AP courses. The Board also recognizes that students may choose not to take these types of courses due to the student's concern that in doing so their grade averages and class rankings will be adversely impacted. To promote enrollment and to give recognition to the academic quality of the advanced courses, the Board adopts the following formula to be used in determining the class rank of each high school student:
For each course, the student's final course grade shall be multiplied by the following applicable weighted factor to produce the weighted points for the course.
The student's class rank shall be determined by comparing the cumulative total of weighted points for all courses taken by the student during his/her high school career with the cumulative total of weighted points for all courses taken by every other student within the class.
In order for a student to be considered for Valedictorian or Salutatorian, he/she must have been enrolled for his/her junior and senior years in the Elmira City School District high school conferring the academic titles.
