Mission Statement

The mission of the Elmira City School District’s Library Media Program is to promote literacy, to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information, and to support students in becoming life-long learners.

School Library Media Specialists (SLMS) through their roles as teachers, information specialists, and instructional consultants, are an integral component of the instructional programs and to student success. 

Goals:

• To focus on strategies for effective reading and literacy instruction and to teach information literacy skills
   

• To encourage students to develop a love of reading and an appreciation of literature
   

• To support the Elmira City School District curriculum and New York State Learning Standards through collaborative instruction
   

• To provide access to and management of materials and technologies to support the demands of the curriculum and the needs of the students and staff
