ECSD officially goes green!
Initial emphasis is on:
- Mandatory recycling and
- Reduced use of personal small appliances
The Elmira City School District administration announces the
official launch of its GO GREEN
CAMPAIGN under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Raymond Bryant.
All staff are now asked to:
- Recycle - Recycling bins have been placed in all schools and
buildings, and using them is staff policy.
- Reduce paper waste - Efforts are underway to produce more documents
electronically, more classrooms are going paperless with the use of
whiteboards and many copiers can print double-sided. Staff are now asking: Do
I really need to print this? Is there a way I can save paper and be just as
effective?
- Turn off lights, computers and printers when not in use - New
construction within the school district has energy-saving systems in place.
However, in older buildings where lights do not go off automatically, the
district encourages staff to turn off lights when not in use.
- Voluntarily reduce use of small appliances - Staff are reducing
their use of space heaters, microwaves, coffee pots, refrigerators, and other
small appliances or electronic devices.
The Elmira district practices single stream recycling. To watch a
