Passport to Graduation

Welcome to the Alternative High School Counseling page!

Hello! My name is Kristie Smith, and I am the School Counselor at the Alternative School. This is my first year in the Elmira City School District, and I am very excited to join this wonderful team. We are in a new building this year, and have many new teachers. We can start this school year off fresh and continue to build on the success of what has already been accomplished.

Let me take this time to explain what some of my roles and responsibilities will be as the School Counselor. My goal is to promote academic, career and personal/social development of all of our students. I will be working with students, teachers, parents and the community to provide a wide range of services to promote the success of the students and the school community. I will provide short-term individual counseling and crisis counseling. I will also be facilitating groups and presenting Collaborative Classroom Instruction (CCI) based on the needs of the students and the school.

Communication between home and school is vital in the development and success of our students. Please contact me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions you may have. You can call me at (607)735-3356 or email any time. I encourage active involvement from parents/guardians, students and staff in the success of the counseling program.
