Q: How are students placed on teams?
A: Teams are created with a careful balance of academic and behavioral needs.
Q: Do you offer tutoring after school?
A: Each teacher provides a minimum of one hour/week of tutoring outside of the regular school day. Days and times are published on the School Counseling home page under Tutoring Schedule. Homework House provides another opportunity for assistance with school work. Students sign up through Kid Zone (Ms. Coldiron) and may attend as needed: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3:15-4:15 p.m. There is a 4:15 p.m. late bus for students who are bused to school.
Q: My child is being bullied at school. What can I do to help?
A: The first thing you need to do is report the problem to your child's counselor. He/she will meet with your child to discuss the situation and determine the appropriate plan of action. As the parent, you should continue to discuss the situation at home and inform the school of any continuation of the problem. The student will continue to meet with the counselor until the situation is resolved. PLEASE do not hesitate to inform the counselor of any concerns pertaining to this situation, or any other problems. We are a team!
See Helpful Information for Parents and Helpful Information for Students on the School Counselors home page.
Q: My child is refusing to follow rules at home and at school. Are there programs that can address these issues?
A: STAR (Student Transition and Recovery): Addresses behavioral problems at home and at school. Students report to Booth School at 5:30 a.m. for exercise, breakfast and a shower. They are bused to school and are expected to follow all school rules throughout the day.
STAR sergeants are called to school if problems arise, and can also be called to the home at any hour. After school, students are bused back to Booth school for tutoring, counseling and exercise (as needed).
Parents pick up students at 6 p.m.
If your are interested, STAR referral packets are available in the main office and at Booth School. STAR: 737-1428.
CIS (Children's Integrated Services): Provides assistance to families struggling at home with various issues. Referrals to appropriate agencies are made, as needed. This is a voluntary program involving collaboration between home, school and CIS.
